Belvoir, meaning beautiful view in French, dates back to Norman times. Belvoir has been the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland for one thousand years and is currently the family home of 11th Duke and Duchess and their five children. The present Castle is the fourth to have stood on the site since Norman times. Inside the castle are many notable collections, from the military treasures in the guardroom to the stunning staterooms with their impressive period art, tapestries, furniture and sculpture. In contrast to the grandeur of the State Rooms, the Old Kitchen and Bakery will fuel your imagination of ‘below the stairs’ life in 1825. Our School Room and Nursery are well equipped for children to experience lessons and play in Regency times. When Elizabeth (the 5th Duchess) commissioned James Wyatt to build the Castle in 1799 she undertook the design and landscaping of the gardens, park and grounds herself. She saw the entire Vale of Belvoir as her garden and was merely framing the views with her valley gardens. Includes entrance and return travel by luxury coach.

1 Day Adult £28, Senior Citizen £27 & Cild £24, By coach
Set in the rural Weald of Kent surrounded by picturesque countryside and ancient parkland, Penshurst Place and Gardens has changed little over the centuries. Home of the Sidney family since for some 450 years. Built of local sandstone the finest feature in this medieval house is the magnificent Barons hall built in 1341 with its 60 ft high chestnut roof, a prime example of 14th century domestic architecture. Later additions have seen Penshurst Place expand into an imposing defended manor house, containing state rooms filled with a remarkable collection of tapestries, paintings, period furniture, fine porcelain and armour. Down the centuries Penshurst has welcomed many famous visitors including from 1519 King Henry VIII, his son King Edward VI, Queen Elizabeth I and in 1986 the Prince of Wales followed by HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother who lunched there in 1987, recently featured in the new Hollywood film "The Other Boleyn Girl".
The garden at Penshurst Place is one of the most beautiful in England and probably one of the oldest, with records dating back to 1346. The existing 11 acre Tudor garden was originally laid out in 1580 and surrounds the romantic fortified medieval house, with its mellow sandstone walls, mullioned windows and ancient doorways. Over one mile of yew hedging divides the garden into a series of rooms, each with its own season and colour. These combine to make Penshurst one of Britain's most alluring spectacles.
