Thursford Christmas Spectacular
2 days From £139, By Coach
It all started one Christmas, more than 25 years ago, when a small festive show took place in the rural location of Thursford. Featuring the choral scholars of King's College, Cambridge, organisers had little idea that their seasonal offering would be the birth of what is now England's largest Christmas show.
The location may be remote, but each year thousands of visitors make an annual pilgrimage to experience the multi-million pound Thursford Christmas Spectacular.
The show features a cast of over one hundred beautifully costumed dancers singing christmas songs and carols, and it takes a whole year to organise with scripts being written, auditions taking place, costumes to be designed and choreographers to set up dance routines.
The Auditorium is a grotto in itself. Antique carousels, fairground organs and steam engines, surround the 1,500 seats plus the whole lot is decked out with enough fairy lights to give an eco-warrior a heart attack!
There is an orchestra, a brass band, highland piper, a massed choir....and when '76 Trombones' is played; there is an amazing gathering of cast on stage and promenading trough the audience.
An 18-strong chorus line provides plenty of glamour in costumes ranging from Charlie Chaplin to the Pink Panther. A magical show in a magical setting.
This really is a memorable short break

There are many water features around the gardens, including the Millennium Fountain which can be found on Sixteen Acre Island, where a splashing water maze has also been built.
Most of the gardens are accessible to wheelchairs as they are mainly on one level and the majority of steps are ramped. The paths are gravel, tarmac or stone. The water maze on 'Sixteen Acre Island' is also accessible for wheelchairs. The steps into the Inner Courtyard make access into the castle difficult as there are no ramps. The ground floor only is accessible to wheelchairs as there are spiral staircases to other floors.

Faith, Hope & Charity - Guided Tour
1 day Adult £40, Senior/Child £39, By Coach
Our unique and story rich day tracing the history of philanthropy and including a visit to the elegant
Foundling Museum in Bloomsbury
We meet our guide in the City of London at 10-30am for morning refreshments at the beautiful café in the
new Salvation Army International Headquarters, a stone’s throw from the Millennium Bridge.
We begin our day on foot for a short walk in the lanes and yards between the river and St. Paul’s. From
the great monastic houses, such as the London Blackfriars came the terms pittance and dole. The guilds
and livery companies emerged as burial and benefit societies and founded almshouses for aged craftsmen.
The City, the East End and the West End each contribute to our story, so next by coach to hear of a
panoply of philanthropists including George Peabody, Dr. Barnardo, Fred Charrington and General Booth.
Charitable work was a rare way for middle class women, especially in the nineteenth century, to undertake
useful and challenging work so we also learn about Clara Grant’s Farthing Bundles and the prison work
of the Quaker Elizabeth Fry.
For lunch we set down by Lambs Conduit Street in Bloomsbury where there is a good choice of pubs and
cafes for lunch.
Eighteenth century London was a swirling mass of contrasts. A rowdy gin-swilling public rubbed shoulders
with gentlefolk keen to do good work. The sight of dead and dying babies abandoned on the streets horrified
Captain Thomas Coram.
In 1739 he established the Foundling Hospital which looked after more than 27,000 children until its
closure in 1953.
Includes return travel by coach.

Ostend Domein Raversijde & WW1 & 2 Atlantic Wall Museum
1 day Adult £30, Senior £29, Child £25, By Coach
The Provincial Domain of Raversijde was started up in1988 and is still expanding.
The former Royal Estate of King Leopold II represents the core of this domain. In 1902 the King acquired most of the terrains and built a wooden residence. This ‘Norwegian Chalet’ , built in 1904, disappeared in 1914, when the Germans turned this Domain into a coastal battery. During the Second World War the Domain was part of the well-known “Atlantic wall”. These episodes have left deep marks in the area. After the Regency, prince Karel settled permanently at Raversijde. In 1981, he sold his Domain to the Belgian State. Thanks to the extraordinary cooperation of the Flemish Community, the Federal Government (Office of Buildings) and the Provincial Government, the former Royal Domain has been saved, significantly expanded and opened to the public.
Since July 2000 the archaeological site of Walraversijde is open for visitors. Special attention is being paid to the life of 15th century fishermen from the village of Walraversijde.
The Domain is situated in the near vicinity of the sea, partially in protected dune lands and has a surface area of almost 50 hectares, providing accommodation to the visitor under all conditions. The focus is mainly on recreation and cultural tourism.
The open-air museum Atlantic Wall.
More than sixty bunkers and trenches, looking exactly as sixty years ago!
In the dunes of the former estate of Prince Karel, a unique historical site of modern fortification has been preserved: sixty constructions dating from both World Wars, interconnected by two kilometers of trenches and galleries. This remarkable site has been extremely well preserved , as prince Karel systematically prevented every demolition attempt.

Hampton Court Palace
1 Day Adult £37, Senior £35, Child £30, By Coach
Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in south west London; it has not been lived in by the British royal family since the 18th century. It was originally built for Cardinal Wolsey, a favourite of King Henry VIII, circa 1514; in 1529, as Wolsey fell from favour, the palace was passed to the King, who enlarged it.
The following century, William III's massive rebuilding and expansion project intended to rival Versailles was begun. Work halted in 1694, leaving the palace in two distinct contrasting architectural styles, domestic Tudor and Baroque. While the palace's styles are an accident of fate, a unity exists due to the use of pink bricks and a symmetrical, albeit vague, balancing of successive low wings.
Today, the palace is open to the public, and is a major tourist attraction. It is cared for by an independent charity, Historic Royal Palaces which receives no funding from the Government or the Crown.
The palace's Home Park is the site of the annual Hampton Court Palace Festival and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Along with St. James's Palace, it is one of only two surviving palaces out of the many owned by Henry VIII. Includes admission and return travel by coach.

Lee Valley Explorer,Cruise & Cream Tea

second river, from the Thames opposite the Millennium Dome through the East End and up through
Essex and into Hertfordshire. Join us for our unique, entertaining and informative day exploring this
valley of contrasts. See how far work has progressed on the Olympic Park at the urban end of the
Valley and enjoy a cream tea cruise at the leafy end near where the canoe and kayak 2012 venues

We meet the guide at 10-30am to buy morning refreshments at ExCel exhibition centre in London’s
Royal Docks which will need no further construction work to host the Boxing, Judo, Weightlifting,
Wrestling, Table Tennis and Taekwondo. We drive through the Lower Lee Valley to a canny

printing were important industries here and for centuries the night soil carts trundled overnight out of
London to feed the crops in the fields and glass houses.

Our afternoon is devoted to one of the newest and most attractive
private collections in London. Sir Henry Wellcome was a fascinating
chap, as rich as Croesus and as curious as the proverbial cat. Born to
a travelling American preacher in a frontier log cabin the teenage
Henry’s first invention was invisible ink. He went on to invent the
medicinal tablet and establish the pharmaceutical giant Burroughs
Wellcome. Lucky in business but unlucky in love Wellcome married
the daughter of Dr. Barnardo whose adulterous lovers included shop
keeper Harry Selfridge and writer Somerset Maugham.
Like a giant Edwardian cabinet of curiosities The Medicine Man gallery
provides a permanent home for some of the most mind boggling
objects that Wellcome gathered from around the world. There is a
marvellous and eclectic bookshop plus a really beautiful café where
you can buy tea before heading for home at 4-45pm. All times are approximate and subject to change.

Legal London - Guided Tour
1 day Adult £40, Senior/Child £39, By Coach
Between royalty at Westminster and commerce in the City, medieval
lawyers found a quiet niche in which to practice their craft. They are
still here. Join us for an absorbing tour of a picturesque and historic
part of London that remains hidden to most visitors.
Our Guide will meet the coach on the Aldwych around 10-30am for morning
refreshments. At the Inns of Court on the gentle slopes to the River
Thames, we trace the history, traditions and peculiar practices of
English Law. Our tale calls on a colourful cast of characters, from the
inimitable Dr. Johnson to the raffish Oliver Goldsmith and of course
dear old Rumpole.
We visit the Elizabethan Middle Temple Hall where Shakespeare
performed and the barristers still dine. The early lawyers rented this
land from the Knights Templar whose round Norman church we visit.
To round off our morning we enter the Royal Courts of Justice in the
Strand. Please note that cameras are not allowed inside the Royal
Courts of Justice. Here you can see Legal London at work. Barristers
in wig and gown hold last minute corridor conferences with their
clients and deals are struck “at the door of the court”.
We lunch together on Fleet Street, the menu is a carvery but there
is a vegetarian option when booked in advance. If you’ve left room
you can buy a dessert on the day for just £1.
In the afternoon, there is a coach tour to include Old Bailey and Staple
Inn and a stroll through stately Lincolns Inn. This must be the only day
we want to end up in Carey Street – the former home of the Bankruptcy
Courts. Time for tea before leaving London at 4-30pm ahead of the
London rush hour. All times are approximate and subject to change.
Includes return travel by coach.
