| Time to get in the mood for Christmas and visit Trier and Bernkastle-Keus. Trier is Germany’s oldest city and is very attractive with its pedestrianised town centre making it an ideal location for a traditional Christmas market. There are almost one hundred festively decorated wooden booths where you will find many Christmas decorations, wooden toys, candles, hand-blown or engraved glassware, gift articles, ceramics and much more. Good traditional German food awaits you as well: bratwurst sausages, potato pancakes, sweets, hot tea and mulled wine. Stop for a while in the Christmas Market pavilion and watch the brass choirs and puppet theatres perform, and St. Nicolas will delight the children. Bernkastle-Keus’ market is set in front of the magnificent half-timbered town hall. The fairytale house is just one of the highlights of a stroll through this medieval town. Enter the realm of fairytales and legends. On our way home we stop at Lille in France for another popular Christmas market, just in case you’ve forgotton that gift for someone special. |

| We've arranged our visit to Cologne during the less crowded midweek period purposely, as Cologne is one of the most popular Christmas market destinations. The oldest Christmas fair is situated at Neumarkt, the central place in the city centre and therefore right in the heart of the shopping area. Probably the most attractive Christmas market is the one on the Alter Markt in front of Cologne's town hall. Cologne's famous landmark, the Cathedral is home to another Christmas market with 160 attractively designed wooden pavillions. We also visit Monschau, a chraming town with cobbled streets lined with colourful houses, and the picturesque forested Eifel Hills.
