We base ourselves in Brussles and visit markets in *Leuven, Hasselt and Bruges and of course Brussles. Christmas markets in Europe offer a wide array of gifts usually all sold from pretty little wooden stalls. As well as gifts there is a traditional food fayre too. Some towns have ice rinks and other seasonal special attractions. The Brussles Christmas markets are held near the Grand Place, a beautiful square, perfect for such occasions. *At the time of going to print 2008 Christmas markets in Belgium have not been confirmed, therefore if necessary we may visit others if the advertised ones are not open during our visit.

Christmas in Worcester

Christmas Markets in the Black Forest

The next day we visit Ooidonk Castle in the picturesque region of River Leie which has attracted many artists from the turn of the 19th century. The owners still live there ensuring it remains beautifully kept. On day three, we visit Gaasbeek Castle. This castle is situated in the very heart of the “Pagottenland”, just a few miles southwest of Brussels and has been there since 1240 but has been rebuilt many times until 1889. Later, we visit the National Botanic Garden of Belgium - one of the world's largest and a treasure trove of plants from all over the world extending over 227 acres. On our final day we visit the Annevoie Gardens, the charming water gardens. In all a wonderful four days of castles and gardens rarely seen by English visitors.

Passion Play & Oberammergau

Bordered by three countries, Lake Constance occupies an extremely beautiful corner of Central Europe and is an ideal destination for a relaxing short break. The 270km shoreline is shared between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. However more than half of the shoreline of Lake Constance is in Germany and the views from the shore across to the Swiss Alps are stunning. We stay in Friedrichshafen, on the edges of Lake Constance in the south of Germany. Our touring includes visits to the Black Forest, one of Germany's most picturesque regions and Frieburg, a lively university town, with a bustling pedestrian area and an impressive cathedral. Little streams running through the old town give it a cool relaxed atnosphere. Another day we cross the lake and visit the town of Constance or rather Konstanz! Our last day touring is spent visiting Colmar and the old centre, which is typically and whimsically Alsatian, with crooked houses, half-timbered and painted, on crooked lanes – all extremely pretty and is known as “Little Venice”. Following on we arrive at Strasbourg, a strikingly beautiful European capital, also with its half-timbered houses and gentle flowing canals.

Ireland - County Mayo & Connemara Coast

Jersey is the largest and most southerly of the Channel Islands, nestling in the bay of Saint Malo just eleven miles from the Normandy coast of France. The island of Guernsey is situated in the middle of the Channel Islands some 70 miles south of the English coast and within sight of the French coast, some 25 miles to the east. Constable Country

Constable Country is a small area along the valley of the river Stour that includes East Bergholt and Flatford on the Suffolk side, and Dedham and Langham on the Essex side. To this day much of the countryside would easily be recognised by Constable, and at Flatford, the sites of six of his major paintings, can be located with precision. The tower of Dedham Church appears in a large number of Constable’s paintings. We also include a visit to the Beth Chatto Gardens, which was begun in 1960 when the site was an overgrown wasteland between two farms. Faced with all kinds of difficult conditions Beth and Andrew Chatto set out to find homes for many of the plants they wished to grow. With dry and damp soil in both sun and shade, they were able put into practice the underlying principles of what is now referred to as "Ecological gardening".

Cologne's famous landmark, the Cathedral is home to another Christmas market with 160 attractively designed wooden pavillions. We also visit Monschau, a chraming town with cobbled streets lined with colourful houses, and the picturesque forested Eifel Hills.

Cotswolds Towns & Rivers

It is made up from six English counties and is famous for its ancient mellow limestone villages and markets towns. What better way to see this area than by boat, cruising on the rivers and canals?
